I’m the Associate Director of Marketing at Berkleemusic, Berklee College of Music’s online school. Prior to working at Berklee, I was the Marketing/Product Manager at Rykodisc, where I oversaw marketing efforts for label artists including Mickey Hart, Jeb Loy Nichols, Morphine, Jess Klein, Voices On The Verge, Bill Hicks, The Slip, Pork Tornado (Phish), Kelly Joe Phelps, and Frank Zappa’s estate. I also worked for a short period of time doing publishing administration for Rounder’s publishing company, Happy Valley. I was the Director of Marketing and Managing Editor of Herb Alpert’s online musician’s resource, www.artistshousemusic.org, for three years.
I’ve written three courses for Berkleemusic: Music Marketing – Press, Promotion, Distribution, and Retail; Online Music Marketing; and Online Music Marketing with Topspin. I also teach The Future of Music and Music Marketing 101. My book Music Marketing: Press, Promotion, Distribution, and Retail came out on Berklee Press in the fall of 2009.
I’ve written for Making Music, Hypebot, American Songwriter, and the Berklee Music Business Journal; and have been quoted in The Boston Globe, CNN, The Boston Phoenix, The Chicago Tribune, Music Connection, and Muso. I’ve also worked as a course writer and instructor for online music and business courses at CNET Networks. I currently consult for local artists and play bass and guitar in the Cambridge-based supergroup The P. James Magic Show.
